ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: I'd been warned about the Twirl pricing policy by @amygeorgina. Essentially, the Picton Room operates a "two tier" pricing structure. Snickers, Mars Bars, Bountys, Twixes and Kit Kats are all 50p, while Dairy Milk bars, Twirls and Galaxy bars are all 60p.
This does somewhat reflect the reality of pricing in standard convenience stores, but seeing it laid out in such brutal terms is quite disturbing. I would recommend a flat 55p rate for all bars.
And it was only the fact that I complained that made them put up a new sign... Surely the 3 that they have decided are the most expensive are actually the more basic of chocolates, they each have only one ingredient, the rest have nougat and caramel and biscuit. Rude.
ReplyDeleteA flat 55p rate would probably net more profit as it increases the cost of 5 bars, whilst reducing the cost of 3 - therefore a net of 2 bars are now pure profit (from their 5p).
ReplyDeleteIt might be worth noting that the cheaper chocolate is all Nestle/Mars. So maybe the issue is Cadbury/Kraft pricing (understand Galaxy is not Cadbury).
The real reason is likely to be Amy's(above) arguement against increased cost:
the three most expensive only have chocolate whereas the others include other ingriedients. The point is that chocolate is the most expensive ingriedient in chocolate bars - any other ingriedient costs less by weight.
